Whether you're brand new to oils or looking to strengthen your skills, you'll explore essential techniques while capturing the rich textures, colors, and forms of your favorite snacks and treats. Xiaosy will guide you step-by-step, from setting up your materials to completing a polished food-themed painting.

What We’ll Cover:

- Oil Painting Basics: Get comfortable with materials, safe studio practices, palette setup, and brush handling
- Technique Building: Learn and apply key concepts like color mixing, layering, and working with light and shadow
- Food as Inspiration: Use the familiar forms and textures of deserts to practice observation and expression
- Composition & Color: Explore how balance, contrast, and color harmony bring your subject to life

About the Instructor

Ava Xiaosy Chen is a passionate fine artist and illustrator currently studying at Laguna College of Art and Design. Born and raised in San Jose, Ava creates work inspired by the world around her—capturing the small details and moments that spark wonder. She brings that same sense of curiosity and joy to her teaching, helping young artists explore new materials and develop their own artistic voice. Ava believes that every student has something unique to say through art, and she loves guiding beginners through their first steps in painting.
