The instructor will guide you through the process step by step, from blocking in shapes to building depth and detail, helping you bring a sense of place and mood to your work.
Whether you’re new to painting or looking to loosen up your approach, this workshop offers a supportive environment to explore and experiment. You’ll gain practical techniques for simplifying complex scenes, mixing vibrant yet natural color palettes, and creating a painting that feels both personal and painterly—perfect for preserving your travel memories in a meaningful, handmade way.
This workshop will be open to both oil and acrylic paint.
About the Instructor
Claudia Gray is a California-based, award-winning artist and author, part of the Field Artist Faculty for the Plein Air Convention & Expo 2026. Best known for her plein air paintings that capture the shimmering light and shifting moods of natural landscapes, she also works in photography, glass, and jewelry. Her art has been exhibited in galleries, museums, juried shows, and retail spaces, including a commission of 450 glass surfboards for the St. Regis Hotel. She is the author of The Beginning of the Beginning (2023) and Creative Minds and Forces (2025).
