05/21 Spring Plein Air Workshop

Join award-winning artist Claudia Gray for a special workshop inspired by the fresh, luminous qualities of spring light.

Description

Join award-winning artist Claudia Gray for a special workshop inspired by the fresh, luminous qualities of spring light. Rather than focusing solely on blooming landscapes, we’ll explore how seasonal light awakens everything it touches—whether it’s new foliage, rain-washed streets, petals in bloom, or soft light filtering through windows. This workshop is adaptable for both plein air sessions and indoor setups, so if the weather doesn’t cooperate, we can gather comfortably at PAL!

Artists of all levels are welcome to explore the subtle shifts of color, atmosphere, and renewal that define spring. With guided demonstrations and hands-on practice, you’ll discover ways to translate delicate, fleeting light into vibrant works of art in oil or acrylic.

Along the way, you’ll also learn how to:
 - Plan compositions that capture both subject and the fresh light that animates it.
 - Observe and interpret soft reflections in puddles, glass, and damp surfaces.
 - Balance cool and warm tones to suggest growth, airiness, and time of day.
 - Simplify complex natural details into strong, expressive designs.
 - Use brushwork, texture, and edge control to evoke movement and gentle atmosphere.
 - Adapt your approach for both plein air painting and indoor studies with florals or window light.

Whether you’re a seasoned painter or just beginning your journey, this workshop invites you to embrace the energy of spring and translate its clarity and renewal into your own visual language.
