04/14 Plein Air Fundamentals Workshop
This workshop is designed to help you confidently approach plein air painting by focusing on observation, simplification, and strategy.
Description
Painting outdoors can feel daunting—even for experienced artists. This workshop is designed to help you confidently approach plein air painting by focusing on observation, simplification, and strategy. Students will learn how to quickly analyze a scene, identify a strong focal point, and break complex landscapes into manageable shapes. Emphasis will be placed on rapidly establishing light and shadow, allowing you to capture changing conditions with clarity and intention.
While watercolor is the recommended medium, participants are welcome to work in any material they feel comfortable using. This class is not focused on foundational painting techniques, but rather on developing practical approaches and decision-making skills for working successfully outdoors in natural environments.
The class will meet at Pacific Art League for a quick orientation, then head into the neighborhood to paint.
