Description
This 6-week course introduces students to the essentials of painting expressive portraits in watercolor. Through a combination of guided demonstrations and hands-on practice, students will build skills progressively each week, gaining confidence in both technique and observation.
The course begins with foundational concepts such as simple drawing for portrait structure, understanding proportions, and practicing brush control. Students will then explore key watercolor techniques—including washes, layering, and wet-on-wet applications—while learning to mix natural, luminous skin tones. As the weeks progress, emphasis will shift toward building form, capturing light and shadow, and developing a sense of likeness and personality in each portrait.
Whether you’re new to portraiture or looking to loosen up your watercolor approach, this class offers an accessible and creative path to painting the human face with confidence, sensitivity, and spontaneity.
