- Learn the secrets to painting watercolors fast and free
- Have fun painting creative and spontaneous watercolor exercises
- Paint abstract watercolors for gifts or greeting cards
- Learn the brush techniques for painting people, skies, and landscape subjects
- Learn simple color theory for mixing color values
- Lay a foundation of skills so that you can continue to paint fast and free on your own.
Watercolor painting will be explained and demonstrated on this day of hands-on exercises designed for fun (and who knows, maybe even for profit). This one workshop will save you months of trail and error frustration so that watercolor painting can delight and fascinate you for years to come. No matter what your skill or background, this class will have you painting watercolors and loving it. Painting watercolor fast and free will delight and entertain you for years to come.
Supply List
Bring the watercolors you already own. We will not be using watercolor pencils. There is no need to purchase new materials unless you don’t have the following:
- water container
- cotton rag
- palette loaded with your watercolor paint or a pan set that you like.
- watercolor brush(s) (small, medium and large round best) (or a Chinese calligraphy brush)
- HB No. 2 pencils or 2B pencils
- a kneaded eraser
- a glue stick if you have one. Instructor will have some.
- One full sheet of 140# cold pressed watercolor paper we will tear this down to 8– 7.5” x 11” sheets with a backing board and two binder clips.
- or a watercolor block of 140 pound cold pressed paper 8” x 10” or 9” x 12”
Robert will be demonstrating with the following colors: Permanent Rose, Vermilion, Aureolin Yellow, Yellow Ochre or Raw Sienna, Viridian or Hookers Green, Cobalt Blue, Phthalo Blue, Burnt Sienna. Students are not required to have these colors. Bring what you have.
About the Instructor
Robert Regis Dvorák has been making drawing and painting fun and easy to learn for more than 35 years. He is an artist and popular speaker on subjects of creativity in education and business. He has authored and illustrated a number of books on drawing and watercolor painting subjects: Travel Drawing and Painting, Drawing without Fear, Experiential Drawing, The Practice of Drawing as Meditation and The Pocket Drawing Book and his latest book, A Book about Nothing and Other Telling Topics, a book of verses and drawings. He has had articles on drawing and watercolor painting in American Artist Magazine and Watercolor Magazine. He is a former Professor of Architecture at the University of Oregon and UC Berkeley.
