04/07 Drawing: Head & Face
Through guided demonstrations and hands-on exercises, students will learn how to map and memorize the key rhythms that organize the face and head.
Description
In this three-week class, students will explore the foundational drawing principles of the Reilly method through the study and construction of the Reilly Rhythm Chart. Developed from the teachings of master illustrator Frank J. Reilly, this system simplifies the complexity of the human head and figure into a series of flowing rhythmic lines that help artists understand structure, proportion, and movement.
Through guided demonstrations and hands-on exercises, students will learn how to map and memorize the key rhythms that organize the face and head. By constructing the chart step-by-step, participants will gain a deeper understanding of how these rhythms connect anatomical landmarks and create a reliable framework for drawing from life or reference. This workshop is ideal for artists interested in strengthening their foundational drawing skills and gaining practical tools for more confident and accurate figure and portrait work.
